Women’s Swimming Opens Garnet Weekend with Dominating Win

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - The Swarthmore College women's swimming team took down Washington College, 216-45, in dominating fashion to celebrate their Garnet weekend home opener on Saturday morning. 

Swarthmore won every event versus the Shorewomen with 13 individual victories and two relay wins. Kate Hallmark, Lexi Duffy, Sophie Rotival and Quinn Weygandt all won two individual events each.



HOW IT HAPPENED
-The Garnet opened the meet with a victory in the 400 medley relay. The team of Erin Szuromi, Gaby Ma, Ashley Wong and Elle Anthony set the tone with a dominating swim (3:56.38) in the opening event. Swarthmore also took second and third in the event. 

-Ryleigh Vallejo and Georgi Mathews were first and second, respectively, in the 1000 freestyle. Vallejo recorded a time of 11:12.19, while Mathews followed closely behind at 11:17.09. Liv Stoetzer rounded out the top-three with a 11:21.26 effort.

-Hallmark won the 200 freestyle in 1:57.70. The Garnet swept the top-three finishes as Maddie Adams-Miller (1:59.34) and Ainsley Jane Tambling (2:01.22) grabbed second and third, respectively. Hallmark later grabbed the top spot in the 500 freestyle at 5:15.30, followed by Rhode (5:21.77) and Vallejo (5:27.74). 

-The Garnet took the top-three spots in the 100 backstroke. Lexi Duffy was first overall at 1:00.15, while Lauren Rhode and Kaja Arusha rounded out the other two spots with times of 1:01.81 and 1:03.42. Duffy went on to win her second event of the day in the 200 backstroke with a 2:09.54, Adams Miller placed second (2:12.70) and Wong was third (2:17.21).

-Swarthmore also swept the 100 breaststroke with Sophie Rotival, Ma and Anthony claiming the top-three finishes.Rotival finished at 1:06.70, while Ma and Anthony followed at 1:07.01 and 1:09.51, respectively. Rotival then went on to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:26.98, followed by Annabella Boardman (2:30.20) and Annaliese Chen (2:32.50).

-Weygandt took first in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:11.68. She also won the 400 individual medley with a 4:39.35 effort. 

-Ashley Wong outswam all opponents in the 50 freestyle with a 25.17 effort. Cara Lee and Szuromi completed the top-three sweep with times of 25.32 and 25.46, respectively. Tambling then won the 100 freestyle with a 54.39 effort. 

-Lee won the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.77 as the only swimmer in the race to break one minute. 

- Swarthmore ended the day with a victory in the 200 freestyle. The team of Tambling, Szuromi, Lee and Ma touched the wall at 1:39.75.
