The Muhlenberg softball freshman class scored four of the team's five runs in a sweep of King's. Game one ended with a score of 3-1 followed by a 2-1 score in the nightcap.
Rookies were responsible for all the scoring for the Mules (14-4) in the opener.
Kristin Oberg plated the first two runs in the top of the third with a two-out single to right before
Sarah Karmazyn (pictured above) scored
Natalie Smith with a double to center in the fifth.
In the circle it was sophomore
Sophie Chong who went the distance without allowing an unearned run. She fanned four batters in the game and allowed just four hits.
Freshman
Cora Bridgers faced the minimum number of batters through the first four innings of the nightcap. She allowed a single baserunner on a walk in the third inning who was subsequently retired on a 5-4-1 double play. She finished the game allowing a run on just three hits with five strikeouts.
Muhlenberg's runs came on a passed ball in the bottom of the first and a sac fly from senior
Kristina Qualben in the third that brought in classmate
Allyson Sweeney.
Sweeney saw her season-opening 16-game streak of reaching base safely come to an end. Karmazyn now owns the longest active streak at 12 games.
The Mules entered the day tied with idle Louisiana College for the Division III lead in double plays, the twin killing in the third inning of game two gives them 15 on the year.
Muhlenberg has held its opponents to a single run in each of the last three games.
