The Basics
• Score: #16 Johns Hopkins – 3 • Arcadia – 0
(25-16, 25-14, 25-15)
• Records: #16 Johns Hopkins (17-0) • Arcadia – (10-8)
• Location: Glenside, PA • Alumni Gymnasium
• The Short Story: After making the short drive to Glenside following an earlier match against Haverford, the Blue Jay volleyball team moved to 17-0 on the year with a sweep of Arcadia. The 17-match unbeaten streak to open the season is now the best start to a season in program history.
How it Happened
SET ONE
• An ace from Arcadia's Lauren Enfield saw Hopkins face its first deficit in over a week; albeit at 3-2. The Blue Jays would quickly erase that, scoring the next four points to take a 6-3 lead that they would hold for the remainder of the opening set.
• A
Lauren Anthony ace followed consecutive kills from
Simone Bliss and
Natalie Aston to extend the Blue Jay lead to 12-7.
• Bliss would add two more kills to make it 23-15 Hopkins, and following an attacking error by Shannon Ryan,
Hannah Korslund closed out the opening set 25-16 with her second kill of the night.
• Hopkins continued its incredible offensive play by hitting .367 in the opening set.
SET TWO
• The second set was the best test that Hopkins would receive all day, with Arcadia taking the lead early. A Bliss kill gave Hopkins an 11-9 lead, before consecutive points from the Knights evened the set back up at 11-11.
• Hopkins then answered with one of their runs that they've produced all season long. In a blink of an eye, the Blue Jays scored seven straight on the heels of
Nicole Hada's serve, and just like that they had a commanding 20-12 lead.
•
Louisa Kishton tallied consecutive kills to take set number two, 25-14.
SET THREE
• With the third set tied at 8-8, a Korslund kill gave the Jays a 9-8 lead that they would hold for the remainder the third.
• Arcadia was able to hang around with Hopkins until a 6-0 run from the Blue Jays gave them match point at 24-14.
• After a long rally, a setting error on Maddie Sehrt finished off the match for Hopkins, 25-15.
Inside the Box Score
• Three different Blue Jays tallied double-digit kills on the night. Bliss and Kishton
tied for the team-lead with 11 kills each, while
Eleni Panagopoulos followed with ten. Kishton also added ten digs for her ninth double-double of the year, and first since the September 27 win over Juniata.
• The Blue Jays again eclipsed the .300 mark as a team, hitting at a .366 clip. Hopkins continues to be the most efficient attacking team in all of Division III volleyball.
What it Means
• These two programs met for the first in 2016 and have played each of the past four seasons. Hopkins is now 3-1 against the Knights, avenging last season's five set defeat.
• With the win, the Blue Jays extend their unbeaten streak to 17 matches. The 17-match win streak to open the season surpasses the 16-0 start from the 2012 Blue Jay team for the best start in program history. Hopkins is now just one win away from matching the longest overall win streak in program history (18) posted by 2017 club.
Up Next
• Hopkins will finally return to Goldfarb Gymnasium again this week for a trio of home matches. The Blue Jays will tussle with Dickinson on Thursday night at 7 p.m. before hosting a tri-match on Saturday against Muhlenberg and Mary Washington. It'll be the second meeting of the season between Hopkins and Mary Washington, with the Blue Jays getting the better of the Eagles in their first matchup back on September 14.
