How it Happened
The Blue Jays hopped out to a quick lead, going up 10-6 after a three-pointer from Joey Kern with 16:34 to play in the first half. The Mules tied it up at 10 before Kern hit another three, followed by a Conner Delaney layup to give Hopkins a 15-10 lead with 11:39 remaining.
Over the next three minutes and change the Mules held the Blue Jays scoreless, going on a 13-0 run capped by a Nate Henty Brown three-pointer to put Muhlenberg up 24-15. Tom Quarry hit a three to put an end to the run, but the Mules responded back, extending the lead back to 28-18 with 5:49 left in the half.
Noah Watson hit a three at the 2:23 mark once again extending the lead to 10 before three Quarry free throws and a Harry O'Neil triple cut the deficit down to four. Watson hit a pair of free throws and the Mules took a six point lead into halftime. Muhlenberg shot 54 percent in the half, led by 11 points from Watson.
The deficit swung between four and seven for the majority of the first eight minutes of the second half before O'Neil hit a three to cut it to one. Delaney followed with a layup and the Blue Jays finally retook the lead with 11:59 left in the game, 43-42. The Mules tied the contest before Ethan Bartlett and Kern hit triples to give the Blue Jays a six-point lead.
An 8-0 run from the Mules sparked by Dan Gaines put them back up 51-49 with 8:46 remaining, but a Quarry tip-in quickly tied it less than a minute later. O'Neil hit a pair of free throws with 5:13 remaining to put JHU ahead 54-53 and they never gave the lead back, coming away with a 59-55 victory to remain unbeaten.
