Goalkeeping Shines In Men's Soccer's 2OT Draw With Dickinson

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. – Defense won the day and each team's goalkeeper shined during Penn State Harrisburg's 1-1 double-overtime draw with Dickinson on Wednesday night, Oct. 6.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Penn State Harrisburg (7-1-1) and Dickinson (0-7-1) each found the back of the net in the game's first 28 minutes but stellar goalkeeping down the stretch proved the difference in Wednesday night's tie.

Joey Aman got the scoring started when he gathered a ball from Luke Myers, dribbled through a group of Red Devil defenders, and fired a shot past Dickinson goalkeeper John Baney in the 13th minute.

The visitors responded 15 minutes later, however, as a Penn State Harrisburg foul led to a free kick from Tyson Burling that Andrew McSlarrow headed home to tie things up in the 28th minute.

From there, Penn State Harrisburg goalkeeper Nicholas Guglielmetti and Baney took over, making numerous saves and preventing their squads from falling behind. Guglielmetti extended completely to deflect a Red Devil free kick over the crossbar in the second half and Baney laid out to his right to turn away a potential game-winner for the Blue & White in overtime.

Both teams got off two shots in the extra sessions but Guglielmetti and Baney were having none of it, making crucial stops that led to the first tie of the season for each squad.

NOTABLES

- The Lions finished with a 14-10 advantage in total shots and an 8-7 edge in shots on goal.

Joey Aman's marker was his fifth of the season. He now leads the team with 14 total points on the year.

- Luke Myers' helper was his fourth assist of the fall, good enough to rank him third among Penn State Harrisburg players.

- Aman and Myers each got off a game-high two shots on goal.

Nicholas Guglielmetti made a season-high five saves in goal to preserve the tie for the Blue & White.

- Dickinson goalkeeper John Baney made seven stops on the night.

- The tie halted Penn State Harrisburg's recent five-game win streak.
