No. 28 Men's Tennis Picks Up Sweep at Dickinson, 9-0

CARLISLE, Pa. - The No. 28 ranked Haverford College men's tennis team (9-5, 4-1 CC) went on the road for a Centennial Conference victory against Dickinson (5-8, 1-3 CC) on Saturday, coming away with a 9-0 sweep of the Red Devils at the Hays Tennis Courts. 

Haverford got out to a hot start during doubles play, with the top flight pairing of George Jiang and Stefan Johnson looking strong in their 8-5 victory over Garrick Adams and Thomas Griffin. At the second doubles flight, Dickinson put up a fight before Haverford rattled off an 8-6 victory with Adam Chow and Patrick Kley setting the tone with their win over DJ Finnell and Levi Veleanu. Justin Minerva and Jason Edmonds also notched an 8-6 win over Florian Anderson and Romano De Caprio before competition moved into singles with the Fords in command up 3-0. 

The first singles flight to finish saw Andreas Wingert make quick work of Griffin by consecutive 6-1, 6-1 finals. Jiang then delivered the clincher for the Fords with his 6-1, 6-4 triumph over Adams. The victory was the first match-clincher of the season for Haverford's top player, the Atlantic South's No. 23 singles player according to the most recent ITA regional rankings. 

With the match victory in hand, another key Centennial victory for the Fords, Danny Loder was a 6-1, 6-1 victor over Veleanu and Chow got past De Caprio (6-2, 6-4). Kirin Eicher stepped into the lineup and downed Anderson (6-2, 6-1) and James McKenzie eclipsed DJ Finnell (6-3, 6-0). 

Haverford is now 43-5 in program history with Dickinson, including a 20-3 mark in Carlisle.  Haverford has won five of its last seven contests and has not lost to a team outside the current ITA national poll. 

The Fords now return to action with a midweek test against Washington College on Wednesday, April 20. The home contest is slated for a 4 p.m. start.
