SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College began the spring portion of the 2018-19 campaign with a non-conference win over Immaculata and a conference win over Muhlenberg on Saturday.
The Garnet didn't lose any sets in the 9-0 sweeps.
Swarthmore 9, Immaculata 0
The Garnet cruised through doubles play and a had a freshman starting in each doubles flight.
Sonia Varma and
Julia Gokhberg took the top flight 8-2.
Sophie Brown and
Shirline Wee won 8-1 in second doubles, and
Arya Jemal and
Christina Wang swept third doubles 8-0.
Brown, Wang, Wee and Jemal all won their singles matches as well.
Audrey Haring earned a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at fourth singles, and
Grace Dignazio took fifth singles 6-1, 6-0.
Swarthmore 9, Muhlenberg 0
In the afternoon match, Swarthmore's top doubles duo of Varma and Gokhberg won again at 8-2.
Emma Kassan and
Vivien Fernandez-Ravelo combined for an 8-0 sweep in the second flight.
Elise Talley and Wang delivered another 8-0 blanking in third doubles.
Swarthmore only dropped four games in the first three singles matches and then won the final three singles matches in pro-sets with Talley winning at number four 8-0, Haring 8-2 in fifth and Dignazio 8-0 in sixth.
Swarthmore travels to NYU March 3 for its next match.
