Women's Tennis Defeated by Franklin & Marshall

COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – The Ursinus women's tennis team fell 9-0 at home to Franklin & Marshall on Monday night in Centennial Conference action at Perkiomen Valley High School.

 

With the loss, the Bears record drops to 9-7 overall and 3-4 in Centennial Conference action. Meanwhile, the Diplomats improved to 7-7 overall and 6-3 in conference play.

 

 

Franklin & Marshall won all three doubles points to gain momentum early in the match with a 3-0 lead. At the second doubles spot, the duo of sophomores Caitlin Vinsonhaler and Avery Samer dropped an 8-4 decision to Jenna Harrison and Mackenzie Sherman. F&M's Cassidy Landau and Sammi Perry followed a minute later by defeating first-year Allie Armour and senior Maddie Russell 8-2 at No. 1 doubles, while sophomore Claire Burke and first-year Shannon Stewart fell 8-4 at the No. 3 position to Caroline Ulrich and Kayley Burke

 

 

In singles, Harrison downed Burke 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3 singles and Perry sealed up the match for the Diplomats with a 6-1, 6-2 triumph over Russell at the No. 2 spot. Samer was bested by Sherman 6-2, 6-2 at No. 5 singles while Hayley Bidwell edged Vinsonhaler 4-6, 6-1, (10-8) at the No. 4 position in a high-scoring tiebreaker. Presley Daggett earned a 6-4, 6-2 win over junior Ava Compagnoni at No. 6 singles and Landau defeated Armour 6-4, 4-6, (10-8) at No. 1 singles to end the match.

 

 

Ursinus returns to action on Wednesday, April 27th as they will host Washington College in a pivotal Centennial Conference matchup at 6:30 p.m.
