McDaniel Prevails in Battle of Unbeatens

TOWSON, Md. - Visiting McDaniel College scored a goal in each half en route to a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over Goucher College at Beldon Field Wednesday evening.
- McDaniel (5-0) struck just over 12 minutes in. An initial shot by AJ Nardone was stopped by Goucher (3-1-2) goalie Ale Sternini (Rome, Italy / Williston Northampton) but Jorge Herrera collected the loose ball and set up Nordone who fired it home for a 1-0 lead.
- In the 19th minute Xavier Dever (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) put a shot on goal that was saved.
- Nearly two minutes later an attempt by Yaya Diabagate (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) sailed just high.
- Daniel Tyrvainen (Helsinki, Finland / French Finnish School) had a shot saved with just over five minutes remaining.
- Jonathan Alvarado (Hyattsville, Md. / International HS at Langley Park) had a bid in the 49th minute that was stopped by McDaniel keeper Austin Heid.
- Sternini made a save on a McDaniel shot just over two minutes later.
- Goucher was awarded a penalty kick just over 10 minutes in, which Ali Kazim Nakhid (Beirut, Lebanon/UMBC) buried for his fifth goal of the season and fourth PK goal.
- Jeremiah Odubade (Capital Heights, Md. / Fairmont Heights) pushed a shot just wide in the 62nd minute.
- The Green Terror were awarded a PK of their own in the 79th minute, which Nick Starr converted to put McDaniel back in front
- Goucher held slight leads in shots (10-9) and corner kicks (6-5) on the evening.
- Sternini made a pair of saves, while Heid turned aside three Gopher shots.
- Nakhid's goal was the first McDaniel had conceded all season.
- Diabagate, Alvarado and Tyrvainen each had two shots for Goucher.
