Leonard Breaks Pool Record as Women's Swimming Defeats Widener

 RESULTS
COLLEGEVILLE, Pa. – Junior Melissa Leonard set a new pool record in the 200 back as the Ursinus College women's swimming team defeated Widener 165-79 on Saturday afternoon.
 
 
With the win, the Bears improved to 4-2 on the season, meanwhile the Pride fell to 4-2 overall.
 
 
Leonard captured the pool record in the 200-yard backstroke after touching the wall at 2:08.31. She earned her second event victory of the afternoon with a time of 10:42.37 in the 1000 free. First-year Sara Bozzomo impressed throughout the meet with victories in the 200 free (2:02.06) and 50 free (25.73), while junior Alexandra Zelinske earned a first-place finish in the 100 back with a time of 1:01.09. Sophomore Emily Carkhuff (5:32.85) edged Zelinske (5:35.25) in the 500 freestyle as they both finished with the top times in the event.
 
 
Senior Abigail Ferguson carried the momentum earning two first-place finishes in the 100 breast (1:10.03) and 100 fly (1:02.02), while classmate Charlotte Driver finished with the top time in the 200 fly touching the wall at 2:22.13. Driver also claimed the best time in the 200 breast with a time of 2:41.97, while sophomore Katie Barlow earned a first-place finish in the 100 free (56.44) and a second-place finish in the 100 breast (1:14.97). Barlow earned a first-place finish in the 200 IM with a time of 2:18.34.
 
 
Sophomore Molly Stevens earned two second place finishes in the 100 backstroke (1:04.37) and 100 fly (1:04.90). Junior Erica Locke earned a third-place finish in the 1000 free with a time of 12:45.37 and a fourth-place finish in the 200 back touching the wall at 2:41.84. Ursinus opened and closed the meet with victories in the 200-medley relay and the 400 free relays. The quartet of Barlow, Leonard, Ferguson, and Bozzomo finished six seconds ahead of the pride with a time of 1:54.62 in the 200-medley relay. Barlow, Leonard, Ferguson, and Zelinske teamed up in the 400 free relay for a time of 3:45.77 to close out the met.
 
 
The Bears will return to action on Saturday with a dual meet at Gettysburg.
