Â
How it Happened
• Hopkins jumped on top of Catholic early when senior
Katie McErlean converted a penalty stroke just 3:14 into the first. Just 31 seconds later, sophomore
Abby Birk centered a pass to classmate
Myra Granato, who redirected a low shot past Cardinals' goalie Maysen Elliott.
• The lead grew to three less than a minute after Granato's goal with an unassisted tally from sophomore
Maddie Brown-Scherer. Her goal was three for the Blue Jays in a span of just 85 seconds.
• Brown-Scherer scored her second of the afternoon with 4:45 to play in the half to stake Hopkins to a 4-0 lead. Birk dumped the ball down to Brown-Scherer in the middle of the circle, and she scored on a one-timer to the left post.
• Junior
Michaela Corvi got in on the scoring action at the 43:19-mark to push the lead to five. Brown-Scherer sent a long pass to Corvi, who took a touch and then slotted a low shot under a charging Elliott and inside the left post.
• Sophomore
Megan Abate capped the scoring with 4:23 to play in the game. Off a Blue Jay corner, sophomore
Avery Seward took a shot from close range that was stopped by Cardinals' defender Nicole Tsiaras, but Abate was there to put the rebound home. Â
