Women's Track Posts Solid Finishes in Saturday Meets

JHU Finished Second at the Widener Invitational

Meet Information 
• Meet: Widener Invitational/Morgan St.
• Date: Saturday, April 20
• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's track and field team put together solid performances on Saturday afternoon at both the Widener Invitational and the Morgan St. Invitational. JHU finished second at the Widener Invitational as the team totaled 99 points, which was just 1.5 points behind winner TCNJ.

Meet Highlights:
• Freshman Ella Baran notched a second-place finish in the 1,500-meter run with a time of 4:42.34 which is the best finish so far in her collegiate career.
• In the 100-meter hurdles, senior Maya Hammonds finished fourth with a time of 15.17. She also notched third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 1.55m. In the 400-meter dash, she crossed the line in fourth with a time of 57.25 which is a new personal best time. The senior grabbed first in the long jump with a leap of 5.81m.
• In the 800-meter dash, Gina D'Addario crossed the line in second with a time of 2:16.96 to set a new personal best mark in the event.
Veronica Montane won the javelin event with a throw of 43.74m to set a new personal best mark in the event and she also earned a sixth-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 10.71m.
Chinaza Nwankpa recorded a 10th place finish in the 100-meter dash as the freshman crossed the line in 12.94 while Daniela Torres earned a fourth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles, clocking in with a time of 1:06.02 and Hannah Miller finished in sixth with a time of 1:07.26.
• In the 200-meter dash, Nwankpa clocked in with a time 25.93 which was good enough for ninth while Alexandra Damron finished right behind her in 10th with a time of 26.01.
Shaina Palmer won the 5k as she crossed the finish line with a time of 18:04.25, which was 16 seconds quicker than the second-place finisher. Julia Chang finished in third with a time of 18:24.15 while Kristin Meek finished in fourth with a time of 18:26.12.
• In the pole vault, Sophia Cortazzo registered a fourth-place finish with a mark of 3.45m while Annie Gutierrez finished in fifth with a mark of 3.30m.
• At Morgan St., Therese Olshanski recorded a third-place finish with a time of 2:15.45 while Arielle Summitt came in sixth with a time of 2:16.72.
