Men's Soccer Blanks Green Terror

WESTMINSTER, Md.—Swarthmore College Men's Soccer scored an important Centennial Conference road win on Saturday afternoon at McDaniel College as the team makes a run for the playoffs in the final weeks of the regular season. Swarthmore (9-2-3, 2-2-2 Centennial) shut out the McDaniel Green Terror 1-0 on Saturday as the Swarthmore defense and first-year goalkeeper Max Kral recorded another clean sheet. Kral lowered his GAA to 1.00 with the shutout and 628 minutes in net this season.

Defender Ben Lau tallied his third goal of the season, and his first game-winner. Lau's goal came off some spectacular passing. Swarthmore earned a corner kick in the 52nd minute and Trevor Homstad drove the kick into the goalmouth. Bless Tumushabe headed the ball back up top to Joe Barile who then flicked it forward to Ben Lau who rose up and drove the ball into the back of the net with a header. The ball never touched the ground during that whole sequence.

Swarthmore out-shot the hosts 12-7 for the match and only allowed the Green Terror to put one shot on goal. The Garnet improved to 15-8-5 all-time against McDaniel and remains unbeaten against them since 2006.

The Garnet sit in sixth place in the conference with three games remaining. Swarthmore returns home on Saturday to face Gettysburg at 4 p.m.
