Dorshimer Drops 37 Points in Women’s Basketball Tip-off Victory

ANNVILLE, Pa. Senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown) scored a career-high 37 points as 19th-ranked Gettysburg College claimed a 76-61 win against Lebanon Valley College in the championship game of the Lebanon Valley College Rinso Marquette Tournament Sunday afternoon.
 
Dorshimer was named the tournament MVP after pouring out a career-high 37 points, hitting 14-of-20 from the field, five rebounds, three assists, and two steals to lead the Bullets. Her 37 points is the most by a Bullet player in 22 years and is the second-most in a game, which is six points shy of the school record. She also became the seventh Bullet to reach 1,300 career points (1,320). Dorshimer finished the weekend by scoring 58 points, 11 rebounds, seven assists, and four steals. Junior Kiera Cesareo (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) was named to the all-tournament team after netting 12 points, three assists, and two rebounds. Sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) contributed 10 points, a team-high nine rebounds, and three assists for the Orange and Blue.
 
Emily Mealey led the way for LVC with 16 points and six rebounds. Anne Lehr registered 15 points, five assists, and four rebounds, while Morgan Bamberger led the reserves with 11 points and a team-high five steals.
 
The Dutchmen went on a 11-2 run to open the first quarter, but the Bullets bounced back soundly, going on a 11-0 run, which included three 3-pointers from Dorshimer, Cesareo, and freshman Carly Rice (Pennington, N.J./The Pennington School) to take the 13-11 lead with 1:23 left in the frame. LVC sneaked in the final basket as Veronica Venezia made a layup with 19 seconds left to tie the game at 13 a piece at the end of the first quarter.  
 
The Bullets and the Dutchmen went back and forth in the second quarter as the teams tied the game five times up to the 2:56 marker. Gettysburg pushed through thanks to a layup by Brown with 2:11 remaining to give the squad momentum for the rest of the first half. A free throw by Cesareo and a trey by Dorshimer in the final 1:45 gave the Bullets the 30-26 lead heading into intermission.  
  
Gettysburg began to surge offensively in the third quarter, making 55.6 percent of their shots from the floor. Dorshimer exploded by accumulating 17 of the squads 25 points by going 7-of-10 from the floor. The team held the largest advantage over LVC at 15 points with 1:23 left in the frame. The Dutchmen concluded the third quarter by going on a 6-2 run, but Gettysburg held on to the 55-44 lead.
 
Dorshimer netted the first five points to start the fourth quarter and Gettysburg continued to flourish on the offensive end as they shot an outstanding 62.5 percent from the field. The Bullets held control with a 19-point advantage from a jumper by Cesareo with 1:50 to go. The Dutchmen then scored six-straight points, but Rice tallied the final basket of the game for the Orange and Blue to take win.     
 
Gettysburg finished 28-of-57 (49.1 percent) from the floor. The Bullets scored 23 points off turnovers and held a 12-4 advantage in second chance points. Gettysburg grabbed the 38-27 rebounding advantage.

The Bullets continue their road trip at Franklin & Marshall College on Tuesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.
