LEXINGTON, Va. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team improved to 4-0 on the season with a 48-4 victory over Southern Virginia on Wednesday evening at Doremus Gym.
 
The Generals won five of the 10 matches by fall, but it was a win by decision that provided the evening's highlight.  Leading 45-4 heading into the final match at 285 pounds, W&L senior Clay Chadwick (Arlington, Va. / Yorktown) produced a come-from-behind 6-3 win over SVU's Nico Ramirez, a two-time All-American.  The match was tied 2-2 in the third period when Chadwick recorded a pair of takedowns to emerge with the win.
 
The Knights claimed their lone win in the nine contested matches at 133 pounds, making the score 6-4 after W&L junior Riley Parker (Virginia Beach, Va. / First Colonial) registered a pin in the opening match at 125 pounds.  First-year Harris Foad (Cincinnati, Ohio / Indian Hill) responded with a pin at 141 pounds and classmate Cooper Johnson (Lincoln University, Pa. / Oxford Area) picked up a win by forfeit at 149 pounds.
 
Junior Ryan Luth (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A. Foran) improved to 15-1 on the season with an 18-3 technical fall over Weston Hirschi at 157 pounds, and senior Joe Salerno (Princeton Junction, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro South) picked up a win by fall at 165 pounds for a 29-4 W&L lead.
 
Junior Rhett McDurmon (Rome, Ga. / Darlington) and sophomore John Ryan Sedovy (Lexington, Va. / Rockbridge County) picked up wins by fall at 174 and 197 pounds, respectively, while senior Brad Basham (Burlington, Mass. / Buckingham Browne & Nichols) won at 184 pounds by major decision, 19-10.
 
Washington and Lee will now break for the holidays before returning to action on January 1 to host the Jim Crytzer Memorial Tournament in Holekamp Gymnasium.
