Garnet Fight Off Green Terror On Senior Day

SWARTHMORE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Women's Lacrosse won an exciting back-and-forth game on Saturday after celebrating seniors Elizabeth Wainwright, Kathryn Restrepo and Tess Wild. The trio, who each have scored 100 goals in their careers at Swarthmore, all scored a pair of goals in Swarthmore's 14-12 win over the McDaniel College Green Terror on Saturday.

Julia Ostrowski and Sophie Peipher each recorded hat tricks to lead the way for the Garnet. Mackenzie Frost also pitched in a pair of goals.

With the win, Swarthmore is now 11-3 on the season and more importantly, 4-3 in Centennial Conference action with two games remaining. One more win for the Garnet will secure one the five available playoff berths.

Swarthmore led off with a goal just 21 seconds into the contest off a strike by Wainwright. Restrepo scored two minutes later to put Swarthmore ahead 2-0. However, McDaniel responded with four straight goals. The Garnet then went on a 4-1 tear capped off with a player-up goal from Ostrowski to take a 6-5 lead with 4:53 left in the first half.

The Garnet held a 7-6 lead going into the second half, but the Green Terror rallied for three straight goals. Swarthmore then responded with two goals to even the count at 9-9. McDaniel took an 11-10 lead with just under eight minutes to play. Two straight goals from Sophie Peipher helped start a 4-0 run for Swarthmore in the final seven minute to put the game out of reach.

Swarthmore won the draw control battle 17-10 and Wild led the way with eight draw controls gathered.
In goal, Betsy Cohen made 11 stops to secure the win.
