Three school records fell on a banner night for the Muhlenberg track and field teams at the NYC DIII Invitational.
The Armory is billed as "The Fastest Track in the World," but the new Mule records all came in field events - senior
Ben Arehart in the high jump and junior
Dylan DeMagistris and sophomore
Faith Fezenko in the weight throw.
Arehart jumped 6-8¾, breaking not only the 42-year-old school record, but also the meet record. The mark is good for fourth place on the Centennial Conference all-time list, and entering the weekend only four Division III jumpers had recorded higher marks. ArehartÂ
(pictured above left) cleared the bar at 6-8¾ on his second attempt and now owns both the indoor and outdoor school record in the high jump, both at the same height.Â
DeMagistris unloaded a tremendous throw of 50-5½ in the last of his six attempts to win the weight throw and break the school record of 50-3½ that was set earlier this year. DeMagistris fouled on his first two attempts but got a mark on his third to qualify for the finals. He was sitting in third place before his record-setting throw, which broke his previous personal best by five feet. DeMagistris, who also placed sixth in the shot put, is only the fifth athlete in CC history to break the 50-foot mark.
FezenkoÂ
(pictured above right) topped the 40-foot mark, throwing 40-1¼ on her second attempt to place fifth and top the previous school record of 36-7. She also eclipsed her previous personal best of 35-6½.Â
The Mules also had some strong performances on the track. Senior
Abby Dalton won the 3000 meters and placed seventh in the mile. Her time in the 3K, 10:16.64, won by more than 21 seconds and was the fourth-best in program history. Senior
Kayleigh Durning finished third in the 60-meter hurdles.
For the men, junior
Russell Neuwirth ran the 200 meters in 23.21 seconds, taking a big chunk off his previous indoor personal best of 24.02. Neuwirth ran 26.01 in the same meet two years ago. His new top time is tied for sixth on the Mules' all-time performance list.
Junior
John Panny was the top collegiate finisher in the long jump.
