Men's Tennis Cruises to 8-1 Win over Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Playing their first match in nearly two weeks, the Ursinus men's tennis team earned a dominant 8-1 win over Lebanon Valley in non-conference action on Monday afternoon.

 

With the win, the Bears improved to 4-2 overall as they earned their third-straight win. Meanwhile, the Dutchmen fell to 5-5 overall.

 

Ursinus started fast as they took the early 3-0 lead off a sweep in the doubles matches. Sophomores Darby Rogers and Rob Ritchie kicked got the Bears on the board first with an 8-1 win over Michael Schuetz and Jeffrey Bauer. The sophomore duo of Lars Jespersen and Will Oberholtzer followed with an 8-3 triumph over Adam Warren and Brendan Byler. Junior Noah Mandel and sophomore Ethan Yu capped the doubles sweep with an 8-4 victory over William Harriger and Nicholas Simon.

 

In singles, Oberholtzer kept the Bears momentum rolling at the No. 2 position with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Bauer and Jespersen clinched the match early with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Schuetz at the No. 1 spot. Ritchie outlasted Warren 6-7, 6-0, (10-3) at No. 3 singles and Rogers took down Byler 6-4, 4-6, (10-3) at the No. 4 spot. Mandel suffered the only loss for Ursinus in the match as he fell 4-6, 4-6 to Brady McLucas at the No. 5 position before Yu closed the match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Michael Schuetz at No. 6 singles.

 

The Bears return to action on Saturday, March 26th as they will host Gettysburg in Centennial Conference play in their first home match of the season at Perkiomen Valley High School.
