A win by a relay team and a school record in the weight throw highlighted a trip to New York City for the Muhlenberg track and field teams.
New York is known as the "city that never sleeps," and it was senior
Elek Ferency who provided some late-night entertainment at the Armory with a mark of 53-10¼ in his final attempt in the weight throw, which was the last event of the meet and didn't end until close to midnight. The distance was good for third place and broke the school record of 52-2¾ he set earlier this season. It also moved Ferency into third place on the Centennial Conference all-time performance list.
The other big performance at the NYC DIII Invitational came from the men's 4x400 relay team of seniors
Russell Neuwirth,
James Nye and
Adam Stefan and junior
Trevor Hitchcock in the last running event of the meet. The Mule foursome finished in first place with a time of 3:26.35, beating the Johns Hopkins quartet that had run in the previous heat by just three hundredths of a second. It was the best time by a Muhlenberg 4x4 team indoors since 2012 and was the fourth-best all-time.
Stefan
(pictured above left) also came in fifth in the 800 in 1:55.63, knocking more than three minutes off his previous personal best and landing in eighth place on the Muhlenberg all-time performance list.
The performance list for the 800 meters also saw a new entry on the women's side, as sophomore
Erin Jackson (pictured above right) ran a 2:23.60, nearly three seconds faster than her previous indoor PR and the 10th-best in program history.
