Women's Soccer Nipped By No. 6 Hopkins

BALTIMORE—Swarthmore College Women's Soccer slipped against No. 6 Johns Hopkins University 3-2 on Saturday night. If recent history is any indication, Swarthmore (9-4, 3-3 Centennial) can take consolation in the fact that after losing to Hopkins during the regular season the past two seasons, the Garnet then responded by beating the Blue Jays when it mattered most—the Centennial Conference Championship.

Louise Rosler and Sophia Stills provided the goal scoring for the Garnet. Rosler's marker was her first of the season and the team's first of the night. Stills' goal was her fourth of the year.

Johns Hopkins scored in the 25th minute but Swarthmore responded with Rosler's goal in the 36th minute. Rosler's goal was an absolute stinger. She dribbled up the right flank and cranked a shot from the top corner of the box and found the twine in the upper left corner to equalize the score.

Hopkins regained the lead and acquired an insurance goal as Rachel Jackson scored in the 45th and 50th minutes. Down two, Swarthmore fought back and netted a goal in the 57th minute. A throw-in from Nikki Gibbons on the right sideline found Stills in the box. Stills kept it on the ground and finished left side past the diving Hopkins goalkeeper.

The Garnet recorded eight shots in each half, but couldn't close the gap. Chantal Reyes recorded seven saves in net for Swarthmore. Swarthmore's next three games are at home beginning with a 7 p.m. game against Bryn Mawr on Tuesday.
