MEDIA, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Cross Country navigated the 5K course at Rose Tree Park to open the 2019 campaign. Swarthmore had three runners crack the top 10 and then had a pack of eight runners finish together sub-19 minutes.
Sophomore Brendan Penfold led the way with a sub-18 time and eighth place overall. He recorded a time of 17:57.46. Lucas Heinzerling was not far behind with a time of 17:59.89. Vaughn Parts took 10th overall, coming in a hair over 18 at 18:00.66.
Swarthmore then had eight runners finish one after the other, taking places 24 through 31. The top three runners from that group were all freshmen: Aidan Cantine (18:52.10), Casey White (18:52.56) and Aiden Tomov (18:53.04). Returners Ethan Rothenberg (18:53.46), Kevin Hudson (18:53.90) and Keyan Shayegan (18:54.32) claimed the next three spots. Seniors Evan Baker (18:54.79) and Graham Doskoch (18:55.23) took 30th and 31st place, respectively.
Swarthmore continues its season with the alumni meet at home on Sept. 14.
