Dickinson Shoots Past Gettysburg

Gettysburg closes regular season at Bryn Mawr Saturday

CARLISLE, Pa. The 22nd-ranked Gettysburg College women's basketball team fell 79-49 at Centennial Conference foe Dickinson College on Wednesday night.

The last time the Bullets lost a regular season conference road game was back on Feb. 9, 2017 at Muhlenberg College.

Gettysburg (20-4, 17-2 CC) was led by junior Ashley Gehrin (Chester, N.J./West Morris Mendham) as she tallied 20 points, which was her fourth 20 plus performance of the season. Sophomore Meredith Brown (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) added seven points and 10 boards, eight offensive and two defensive.

Five Dickinson players reached double-figures with Kate Deutsch leading the team with 21 points and seven rebounds.

Playing without leading scorer senior Emma Dorshimer (Jenkintown, Pa./Jenkintown), the Red Devils opened the game on a 5-0 run before the Bullets answered with a trey from junior Kiera Cesareo (Randolph, N.J./Randolph) and a lay-up from Brown to tie the game at 5-5. Another 5-0 run from the Red Devils pushed the lead 10-5, but a lay-up by Gehrin sliced the advantage down to three (10-7) with 3:12 on the clock. Dickinson closed the first quarter by tallying 10 points, six of which came from beyond the arc, to make it a 20-10 game heading into the second quarter.

The Red Devils began to pull away from the Bullets in the second quarter as they held a 26-point advantage, the highest of the first half, off a fast-break lay-up from Katie Weaver. Dickinson went into the locker room holding a 39-20 advantage after shooting 51.6 percent from the field in the first half.

Gehrin scored 14 of Gettysburg's 18 third quarter points, but the Bullets still trailed 62-38, going into the final quarter of play.

The Red devils hot-shooting continued as they led by a game-high 31 points with 1:30 left in the fourth quarter off a free throw by Norah Mitchell. The hosts held Gettysburg to 11 fourth quarter points to take the conference victory.

Gettysburg finished 13-of-59 (22 percent) from the floor, including 2-of-18 from three-point land. Dickinson shot 52.7 percent (29-of-55) from the floor, nailed 10-of-21 (47.6 percent) three-pointers, and scored 23 points off turnovers. The Bullets out-rebounded the Red Devils 45-32.

With tonight's loss and Johns Hopkins University win at Franklin & Marshall, both teams hold a 17-2 conference record. Haverford College (18-6, 14-5 CC) sits in third followed by Ursinus College (16-8, 13-6 CC) in fourth and Muhlenberg College (15-9, 11-8 CC) in fifth.

The Orange and Blue closes the regular season at Bryn Mawr College (1-23, 0-19 CC) this Saturday at 2 p.m.
