Lee Paces Men’s Golf in Spring Opener

ABBOTTSTOWN, Pa. - The Swarthmore College men's golf team tied for 11th out of 17 teams as they opened their spring slate at the McDaniel Spring Invite on Sunday afternoon. 

After the opening round was canceled due to rain, Ben Lee shot a team low of 77 (+5) to pace the Garnet. The junior tied for 15th overall for the tournament and tallied a team-best three birdies. 

Alex Cheriel, Chad Kemmerer and Andy Xin all carded an 82 (+10) to round out the team's scorers.



HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lee shot five-over par with a 77 to tie for 15th overall. The junior birded the first hole, before running into some trouble later on the front nine. Lee bounced back to close out the front nine with another birdie on the eighth hole. He then added a birdie on the 12th hole for his third of the tournament.

- Cheriel tied for 50th overall with an 82 on the day. The junior also saw success on the front nine with a pair of birdies on the fifth and eighth holes, but ran into some trouble on the back nine. 

- Kemmerer looked strong on the afternoon besides a challenging eighth hole. The sophomore added a birdie on the fifth and 15th holes as he carded an 82 to tie for 50th overall.

- Xin had a very steady afternoon for the Garnet until struggling on the final few holes. The first-year, who had a very impressive fall, carded an 82 to tie for 50th overall.

- Zack Zawisny shot a 90 (+18) to round out the team's competitors. 

UP NEXT
The Garnet return to the course at the Arcadia Augustine Intercollegiate on Friday and Saturday.
