DOWNINGTOWN, Pa. – Senior
Danny Harcourt (Fanwood, N.J./Saint Peter's Prep) tied the single-round scoring record with a 67 to earn his 11th career individual title and Gettysburg College captured his seventh team championship of the season at the Rosemont College Ravens Invitational at the Downingtown Country Club on Sunday.
After shooting a three-under 69 on Saturday, Harcourt went five-under in the final round to best his personal low by one stroke and tie the program's single-round record held by classmate
Dane Sethre Hofstad (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) and
Jeff Poet '75. With a total score of 136 at the tournament, Harcourt also broke his own 36-hole record of 138, which he set last fall at the Carnegie Mellon Fall Shootout.
Harcourt opened his final round with a bogey, but that would be the only blemish on his scorecard. He logged seven birdies and 10 pars to close his day. Four of his birdies came on the back nine, including the par-5, 531-yard 16th for the second consecutive day. Over the two days, Harcourt managed to birdie 10 different holes. The win marked the 11th of his career and third this season and he padded his own program record with his eighth career sub-70 round.
As a team, Gettysburg ran away from the 18-team field for its seventh title of the season. The Bullets entered Sunday's final round with a 12-stroke lead after carding 296 Saturday. The team finished just three strokes off the program record it reset last Thursday with an even-par 288 to claim a 19-stroke victory over Franklin & Marshall College. It was also the program's second-best score at a 36-hole event, trailing only the 578 notched by the team at the CMU Shootout last September.
Sophomore
Daniel Rieger (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) tied his personal best with a 71 Sunday and finished in a tie for third with 146 (75-71). Rieger was four-over through his first five holes, but caught fire over the rest of the course, racking up six birdies and six pars to close at one-under for the day. All six of his birdies came between the eighth and 15th holes. Rieger birdied the par-5, 498-yard eighth hole for the second-straight day.
Sophomore
Quinn Greene (New Milford, Conn./Canterbury School) improved his score by a stroke with a 74 Sunday and finished 10th with 149 (75-74). Greene birdied three consecutive holes to close the front nine even par and he ended his day with a birdie on the par-5, 562-yard 18th.
Senior
Dane Sethre-Hofstad (Moorhead, Minn./Moorhead) also improved his day one tally by a stroke with a 76 and finished 15th overall with 153 (77-76). The senior racked up 15 pars on the afternoon.
Junior
Ethan Murphy (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Trinity) turned in the most significant drop on the team, shaving five strokes off his round one total to shoot 79 Sunday. Murphy, who finished tied for 50th with a score of 163 (84-79) logged 11 pars in the final round.
Competing as an individual, freshman
Tristan Hochman (Westport, Conn./Staples) recorded his best round as a collegian with a two-over 74 in the final round. He was 14th overall with a 152 (78-74) and capped his day with his second birdie of the day on the 18th hole.
Gettysburg closes out the regular season by hosting an invitational at the Hanover Country Club on Tuesday. Opening tee times are scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
