GETTYSBURG, Pa. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team won two of its three matches on Saturday at Gettysburg College, improving to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in the Centennial Conference.
 
The Generals easily knocked off both McDaniel and Gettysburg, defeating both opponents by a score of 37-10.  However, the Blue & White was edged out in the final match, falling to Ursinus by a count of 21-20.
 
W&L fell behind 6-0 early on against the Bears, dropping each of the first two weight classes by decision.  However, the Generals won five of the next six matches to post a 20-12 lead heading into the final two weight classes.  Ursinus earned a hard-fought 4-2 win at 197 pounds and then registered a pin at 285 pounds to claim the win by a single point.
 
Washington and Lee was paced on the day by senior 141-pounder Charlie Cunningham (Pequannock, N.J. / Seton Hall Prep), junior 157-pounder Ryan Luth (Milford, Conn. / Joseph A. Foran) and senior 184-pounder Brad Basham (Burlington, Mass. / Buckingham Browne & Nichols), who all won all three of their matches on the day.
 
Cunningham earned a tech fall (16-0) over Joe McKneely of McDaniel, pinned Jake Stein of Gettysburg (4:08) and posted a 20-7 major decision over Wesley Tosto of Ursinus.
 
Luth opened with a 15-3 major decision over Xavier Howard from McDaniel.  He then pinned Jake Dressler of Gettysburg in 1:41 and earned a forfeit win over Ursinus.
 
Basham logged a pin over Yoann Olympio from McDaniel (4:44), a 12-3 major decision over Kelvin Cupay of Gettysburg and a 2-1 decision over Gary Nagle of Ursinus.
 
Washington and Lee will return to action on Wednesday when it hosts 18th-ranked Averett for a 7:00 pm dual match.
