Moravian Tops Rival Muhlenberg for Second Win of the Spring Season

ALLENTOWN, Pa. --- The Moravian University women's tennis team topped rival Muhlenberg College, 7-2, in non-conference action in Deitrich Field House Tuesday as the Greyhounds won their second straight match to begin the 2022 spring season.

How It Happened

  • The Hounds had a 2-1 after doubles action. The Blue and Grey took a 1-0 lead when the second doubles squad of juniors Cristina Merone and Maddie Figiel posted an 8-0 win. Moravian earned an 8-7 (7-2) triumph at third doubles as the tandem of sophomore Emily Masters and freshman Rose Lombardo rallied from a 7-3 deficit for the win. Muhlenberg captured first doubles by the same 8-7 (7-2) score to make it 2-1 heading into singles
  • Figiel was the first to finish in singles with a 6-4, 6-3 victory at third singles while the Mules won at second singles to stay within a point at 3-2. Junior Julianne Cassady posted a 6-4, 6-3 triumph at first singles while Lombardo earned the winning team point with a 6-2, 6-0 win at fifth singles
  • Moravian closed out the match with two more victories as Merone won 6-2, 7-5 at fourth singles and Masters posted a 6-4, 6-2 triumph at sixth singles
