Men's Tennis Rolls Past NYU; Falls at Johns Hopkins

BRONX, N.Y. - The #20 NC Wesleyan College men's tennis team went on the road to defeat #35 New York University on Sunday afternoon 7-2 to pick up their 4th win of the season after falling 6-3 to Johns Hopkins University in Maryland on Saturday.

The men sit at 4-3 after the weekend. 

NCWC 7, NYU 2

Wesleyan got off to a great start by sweeping the doubles 8-2, 8-5, and 8-7 on the third line as sophomore Max Robinson and Nikita Revin won a 7-4 tiebreak. Junior Roberto Puig and sophomore Juan Vallejo dominated the top doubles line as well.

Sophomore Jhonny Acosta and Revin clinched the Bishop win by winning easily in straight sets. Acosta won 6-4, 6-0 at the 3 line while Revin won 6-1, 6-3 at the 5th line. 

Puig and Robinson also won third set tiebreakers for their wins at the 2 and 4th line respectively, Puig won 6-3, 6-7, 10-1 while Robinson took it 6-7, 6-4, 10-6. Vallejo dropped a close three-setter at the top line 6-4, 3-6, 4-6 while Valentin Aniceto lost 4-6, 7-6, 7-10 at the sixth line. 

JHU 6, NCWC 3

In Wesleyan's battle with 21st ranked JHU on Saturday, the men would almost sweep the doubles winning 8-6 and 8-4 at the 2nd (Acosta/Ingmar Remmerswaal) and third lines (Revin/Robinson) while the Bishop top team of Puig and Vallejo fell 8-7 and 11-9 in the tiebreaker as NCWC took a 2-1 lead overall. JHU saved 4 match points to steal the doubles point.

Acosta then carried the only win for the Bishops in singles winning 6-3, 6-1 at the third line while Vallejo (#2), Revin (#4), and Remmerswaal (#6) lost three-setters. 

JHU improves to 3-0 with the win while Wesleyan falls to 4-3.

The Bishops next return to action on March 23 at Mount Olive at 2 PM.
