NEW PROVIDENCE, N.J.—Swarthmore College Men's Swimming returned to action after a long hiatus with a quad meet at the Berkeley Aquatic Club against some of the nation's top teams. The Garnet fell to Worchester Polytechnic Institute 134-125, to No. 14 Rowan 105-101 and to No. 5 Johns Hopkins University 205-54.
Freshman Alex Hatzikos swam his first 1,650 free of the season and took third place with a time of 16:34.82, also good enough for third in the Centennial Conference this season.
Classmate Ben Freeman beat his own personal best in the 200 free with a 1:42.10 and took second place in the event. Alec Menzer posted a solid 1:44.53 for fourth place.
In the 50 free, Alec Lawless charted a 21.82 mark for fourth place. He also took fourth in the 100 free with a 47.67. Ben Freeman was right behind him at 47.94 for fifth place.
Horace Shew added a fifth-place finish in the 200 breaststroke (2:15.09).
Freeman and Menzer had back-to-back finishes again in the 500 free. Freeman sailed in at 4:45.50 for fourth place, and Menzer had fifth with a time of 4:46.33. He had another fifth place in the 200 IM (1:58.14).
Jeremy Rockaway swam to fifth in the 100 fly (52.25).
Swarthmore returns to compete at Ware Pool on Feb. 1 against Gettysburg College.
