EMMITSBURG, Md.  – The Gettysburg College men's basketball team opened its campaign with an exhibition matchup at Division I Mount St. Mary's University inside the Knott Arena Saturday night where the hosts took the 75-58 victory.

The setback does not count against Gettysburg's regular-season record as a Division III institution, but Mount St. Mary's received credit for its first win of the campaign.

How It Happened…
  • First Half: Mount St. Mary's led by as much as 19 points, but the Bullets bounced back by going on a 11-3 run in a four-minute span late in the first half to come within eight. The hosts closed the half with a 5-2 run to make it 37-26 at intermission. The Mountaineer shot 54.2 percent (13-of-24) from the field and the Bullets forced 10 turnovers.
  • Second Half: The Bullets showed a lot of fight to start the final half as freshman Spence Curto (Yonkers, N.Y./Millbrook) drained a 3-pointer that started an 11-6 run to cut the deficit down to six with 14 minutes to go. That would be the closes the Bullets would come, as Mount St. Mary's held a 10 or more point cushion the rest of the way.
By the Numbers
  • Gettysburg finished 23-of-64 (35.9 percent) from the floor, while Mt. St. Mary's was 23-of-53 (43.4 percent).
  • Mount St. Mary's held a 44-33 advantage in rebounds, while Gettysburg forced 19 turnovers.
  • The Bullets made nine three-pointers to the Mountaineer three.
Where the Series Stands
  • Mount St. Mary's vs. Gettysburg series started back in the early 1900's with the first contest coming in 1912 where the Bullets won 27-17. The two schools played regularly until 1953 and did not play against each other again 1980. Until tonight, the last time the two schools played against each other was in 1987.
