Men's Lax Goes 7-0 With Win Over Arcadia

GLENSIDE, Pa.—Swarthmore College Men's Lacrosse won its seventh consecutive game to begin the 2019 season, beating the Arcadia University Knights 14-9 on the road on Wednesday night.

The Garnet's seven-game win streak is the program's best during head coach Pat Gress' tenure.

Austin Chang led Swarthmore with three goals on Wednesday, upping his season total to a team-high 21 goals.

Will Vespole and Mason Evarts each chipped in two goals. Ryan Izquierdo, Jake Ross, Jack Belluche, Ryan Mulvey, Quin Seivold, Alec Ferry and Zander Levitz scored a goal as well.

Swarthmore played its best in the middle quarters while getting out-scored 6-2 in the first and fourth quarters.

The Garnet struck right away in the second quarter with Izquierdo snagging the opening faceoff and ripping in the goal to tie the game at 3-3. Mulvey gave Swarthmore its first lead with 11:44 left to play in the second quarter. 

The Garnet outscored the Knights 5-1 that period with Chang netting two of his goals. Swarthmore blitzed Arcadia in the third, running past the hosts 7-2 in the frame to break the game even more wide open.

Izuierdo finished the game with 16 faceoff wins on 22 attempts (72.7 percent) while grabbing 10 ground balls.

Frankie Dillon recorded eight saves in net in the Garnet win.

Swarthmore goes for its eighth straight win on Saturday at home against No. 17 F&M.
