Muskus’s Game-Winner Lifts Women’s Soccer

SELINSGROVE, Pa. – Erika Muskus (Scotch Plains, N.J./Scotch Plains Fanwood) scored three minutes into the opening half to lift the Gettysburg College women's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference victory at Susquehanna University Wednesday evening.

The Bullets (8-3-3, 4-1-2 Centennial Conference) posted their sixth shutout of the season.

Gettysburg ended the match with the 8-5 shot advantage over Susquehanna. The Orange and Blue outshot the River Hawks by a slim 4-2 in the opening half, with the Bullets goalkeeper Madelyn Cunningham (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) and Susquehanna's Madison Welliver making two saves each. Both goalie's concluded the match with three saves apiece, while Cunningham collected her fourth shutout of the season.

The Bullets fired at the frame early as Muskus booted the lone goal three minutes into the opening half off a feed from senior Alexa Bushey (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin). Muskus collected her third game-winner and sixth goal of the season, while Bushey tallied her second assists of the season.

Gettysburg held Susquehanna to just three shots in the second half, with the defense halting the River Hawks offense to zero opportunities in the final ten minutes of play.

Gettysburg tallied the slight 4-3 edge on corner kicks.

Gettysburg returns home on Saturday when it takes on Centennial Conference foe No. 24 Swarthmore College at 7:00 p.m. on Senior Day.
