Hopkins Drops Swarthmore, 81-53

JHU Is Off To Its Best Start Since 2004-05

The Basics 
• Score: JHU – 81, Swarthmore - 53
• Records: Hopkins (5-0, 2-0 CC) • Swarthmore (1-4, 0-2 CC)

• The Short Story: The Johns Hopkins women's basketball team had three players score in double-digits as the Blue Jays defeated Swarthmore, 81-53, on the road on Tuesday night.

How it Happened
• The Blue Jays opened up the game with a three from Lexie Scholtz as JHU made four shots from deep in the opening 10 minutes of play. Diarra Oden hit a three with 1:42 remaining and followed with three free throws in the final minute of play to give JHU a 24-14 lead heading into the second quarter.
Lillian Scott took a pass from Jess Sweeney and connected from deep at 4:57 to give the Blue Jays a 31-20 lead. A layup from Audra Woodside cut the Hopkins' lead to nine at 4:34.
• A layup from Rory Cole off a pass from Madison McGrath put Hopkins up 36-24 with 2:01 remaining in the half. Oden converted a layup which put JHU up 15 with 1:11 remaining. Woodside connected on a layup as time expired in the half to send the teams into the break with Johns Hopkins leading 39-26.
• Hopkins scored the first four points of the third on made baskets by Scott and McGrath to take a 43-26 advantage. Faith Nation cut the Blue Jay lead to 13 with a three at 7:45, but McGrath responded with a layup to put Hopkins back up by 15 at 46-31.
• Back-to-back threes from Oden and Scott put Hopkins up by 19 with 3:03 remaining in the third, however, a jumper by Kim Kockenmeister with 59 seconds remaining cut the JHU lead to 13. Scott hit a layup with 17 seconds left as JHU led 56-41 heading into the fourth.
• Johns Hopkins remained in control of the game, scoring the first six points of the quarter to take a 62-41 advantage. A 5-0 Swarthmore run cut the Blue Jay lead to 62-46, but Hopkins would rebuild its lead as a three from Maggie Wodicka gave JHU its largest lead of the game at 29 as JHU claimed the 81-53 victory.

What it Means
• JHU is now 41-11 all-time against the Garnet and the Blue Jays have won the last eight meetings.
• The 5-0 start to open the year is the best start for the team since the 2004-05 season when Hopkins also won the first five games of the season.

Inside the Box Score
• Ten different players scored for Hopkins in the game.
• The 81 points are a season-high for JHU.
• Scott led the way for the Blue Jays with 19 points while Oden poured in 16 off the bench. Scholtz finished with 14 points on the evening.
• Cole pulled down 11 rebounds for her fourth game with double-digit rebounds and finished one point shy of her third double-double of the season. Scholtz added seven rebounds as JHU outrebounded the Garnet 48-36.
• The Blue Jays scored 26 off turnovers while the Garnet scored just five.
