Johns Hopkins Upends 14th-ranked Trinity

• The Short Story: The 26th-ranked Johns Hopkins women's tennis team upset 14th-ranked Trinity (TX) on Wednesday afternoon in Houston to wrap up its Spring Break trip to the Lone Star State.
 
How it Happened
• Hopkins opened the match with a sweep of doubles to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Sophomore Anjie Kashyap and junior Sophia Strickland beat 13th-ranked Mary Kaffen and Zoe Kaffen, 8-7 (5), at first. Sophomore Dhanya Asokumar and senior Kimberly Zou earned an 8-7 (3) win over Megan Flores and Caroline Kutach at second. Freshman Evelyn Chang and senior Katie Gauch won 8-4 at third over Ashley DeBauge and Hailey Feuer.
• The Tigers rallied with four singles' wins but the Blue Jays grabbed wins at fourth and fifth to secure the team win. Kutach edged Kashyap in three sets at first 6-4, 3-6, 7-5. DeBauge beat Strickland 6-3, 6-3 at second. Zoe Kaffen won 6-4, 6-2 over Zou at third.
• Asokumar grabbed a 6-2, 6-1 win at fourth over Feuer. Chang then clinched the win as she beat Andrea De Leon 7-5, 7-5 at fifth. Mary Kaffen picked up a fourth point for the Tigers with a 6-3, 6-1 win over Gauch at sixth.
 
What it Means
• Hopkins improves to 2-1 all-time against Trinity and earns its first win in the series since 2013.
• The win is the 150th for head coach Dave Woodring, who is now 150-43 (.777) in nine seasons with the Blue Jays.
 
Up Next
• Hopkins returns to action and opens Centennial Conference play on Saturday, March 23 at Swarthmore. The match is slated for a Noon start.
