Thomas Nets Game-Winner as Bullets Defeat Susquehanna in Double Overtime

GETTYSBURG, Pa. – Freshman Oladayo Thomas (Larchmont, N.Y./The Masters) scored the game-winning goal in double overtime to lift the Gettysburg College men's soccer team to a 1-0 non-conference win against Susquehanna University Tuesday night.

Junior goalkeeper Thomas Keane (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga College) made five saves to collect his first shutout of the season for the Bullets, while Matt Ellingworth stopped six shots for the River Hawks.

Gettysburg (7-3-1) has now won six of its last seven matches and holds a home record of 5-1.

The Bullets had numerous shot opportunities to take the lead throughout the whole match, but were unable to capitalize on their chances. Gettysburg owned the 9-2 shot advantage in the opening half and ended the match outshooting Susquehanna 22-12.

Gettysburg finally broke through at the 107:34 marker in double overtime as junior Matthew McCann (Potomac, Md./Gonzaga College) took the corner kick on the right side of the field and executed the play perfectly. McCann kicked the ball right to Thomas who quickly headed the ball into the right side of the net for the game-winner. McCann registered his first assist of the season, while Thomas pushed his season total of goals to seven.

Gettysburg resumes its schedule on Saturday when they travel to Dickinson in an important Centennial Conference match starting at 3:30 p.m.
