The Muhlenberg field hockey team notched its second straight shutout win to open the season, blanking DeSales 2-0 in its home opener.
Sophomore
Kristin Oberg, who scored her first career goal off a pass from freshman
Alexandra Gann in Friday's opener at Scranton, returned the favor against the Bulldogs. Just 6:47 into the game, Oberg made a long pass from the right sideline to Gann
(pictured above), who dribbled past a defender and shot the ball into the left side of the cage.
The score remained 1-0 until midway through the fourth quarter, when junior
Rachel Richards took a pass from classmate
Morgan Tietz and trickled a shot past the DeSales goalie - who earlier in the day was named Division III player of the week.
The defense took care of the rest, with senior
Jordan Segrave making four saves, including one on a blast that took her glove off in the fourth quarter.
Sophomore
Kasey Mitchell, who made an emergency start in goal against DeSales last year, made her first career start as a field player and was helped shut down an offense that had scored seven goals in its first two games.
The Mules had not started a season with two straight shutout wins since 2003.
