Roanoke Falls to Gettysburg in NCAA Second Round

CARLISLE, Pa. --- Roanoke College traveled to Dickinson to kick off the 2022 NCAA Men's Lacrosse Tournament. The Maroons would face Gettysburg in their tournament opener. Gettysburg would race out to a 4-1 advantage and build their lead to 8-3 at the break. The Maroons played the Bullets even during the third period but still trailed, 10-5, heading into the fourth quarter. The Maroons trimmed the lead to four at the mid-way point but couldn't get any closer as Roanoke fell, 14-8.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Three consecutive sores by Gettysburg would have Roanoke playing from behind the remainder of the afternoon. Luke Kammerman got the Maroons on the board but they would trail, 4-1, after one quarter of play.
  • George Gilbert scored to start the second but three more Bullet scores but Gettysburg in front, 7-2. Bryson Miller stopped the run but another score by the higher seed would see the lead for Gettysburg grow to 8-3 at the half.
  • Kammerman went back-to-back but the Maroons would trail, 11-5, with just 15 minutes left to play.
  • Luca Docking scored his first and Gilbert added a pair but, in the end, the Bullets would advance with the 14-8 win.
  • Kammerman and Gilbert combined for six of RC's eight goals. Aidan Sullivan picked up five ground balls with Griffin Buck causing two turnovers. Taylor Lewis recorded 13 saves in his first NCAA game in goal.
