Men's Basketball Handles Muhlenberg at LVC Tournament

ANNVILLE, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team used a strong second-half effort to secure an 81-59 victory over Muhlenberg on the first night of Lebanon Valley's Rinso Marquette Tournament on Friday, Nov. 12. 

 

HOW IT HAPPENED 

The Lions (3-0) outscored Muhlenberg (2-1) 50-28 in the second half of an 81-59 victory on Friday night. Thanks to the victory, Penn State Harrisburg will play in the Rinso Marquette Championship Game on Saturday afternoon. Donyae Baylor-Carroll led the way with 22 points, while Nate Curry posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds. Dylan Daniels and Brandon Coleman also reached the double-digit scoring mark. 

 

Baylor-Carroll had the hot hand in the early going, netting Penn State Harrisburg's first eight points with a pair of 3-pointers and a layup that put the Blue & White up 8-4 at the 16:52 mark. He added three free throws a few minutes later to push the advantage to eight with 12:45 left in the first half. 

 

The Lions took their largest lead of the half when Coleman converted two foul shots to make it 23-12 at the 8:56 mark but the Mules responded with a 17-4 run over the next four minutes, pulling ahead with a Dan Gaines 3-ball with 4:12 remaining in the opening half.  

 

Penn State Harrisburg drew even just before halftime and Curry erupted after the break, knocking down jumper after jumper in the opening minutes of the second half to disrupt Muhlenberg's zone defense and reclaim the lead for the Blue & White. Daniels added a dunk and Baylor-Carroll knocked down back-to-back triples to stretch the lead to 49-40 with 14:37 left to play.  

 

Despite Gaines' best efforts, the Lions kept the Mules at arm's length before putting together a game-sealing 11-0 run that included seven points from Daniels and buckets from Curry and Coleman in the closing minutes.  

 

NOTABLES 

- The teams were nearly identical shooting from the floor, as the Lions shot 41.9 percent and Muhlenberg converted at a 41.8 percent clip. 

- Penn State Harrisburg got to the foul line 25 times (21-25), compared to just 11 times (4-11) for the Mules. 

- The Blue & White forced 20 Muhlenberg turnovers.  

- The Lions assisted on 19 of their 26 made field goals.  

- Donaye Baylor-Carroll led the way with a game-high 22 points, He added four assists and four steals. 

- Nate Curry posted a double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  

- Dylan Daniels netted 17 points to go along with seven boards and a pair of blocks. 

- Brandon Coleman had 15 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. 

- Zegary Scott III dished out seven assists to go along with four points and four steals. 

- Dan Gaines was Muhlenberg's high man with 19 points. He added seven boards and six assists.

The Lions will face Delaware Valley in the Rinso Marquette Championship Game on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 13. Tip-off is set for 3 p.m.
