#14 UMW Women’s Lacrosse Uses Big Second Half to Down McDaniel, 18-6, on Wednesday

The fourteenth-ranked University of Mary Washington women's lacrosse team scored 13 goals in the second half to help them down McDaniel College, 18-6, on Wednesday afternoon in Westminster, Md. UMW improves to 5-2 overall on the season. Senior Paige Haskins scored six goals on the day to lead the Eagles. 

Rebecca Pullen got the scoring started as she scored 5:14 into the game to give UMW a 1-0 lead. The Green Terror scored a goal three minutes later in a man-up opportunity to tie the game at one. The Eagles scored three straight goals to go up 4-1 with 14:08 left in the first quarter. Haskins scored the first, Morgan Shorts scored the second, and Kayla Sarazin scored the third. McDaniel got back in the game as they scored two straight to get back within a goal, 4-3. Pullen scored a goal with just 1:43 to put the Eagles up 5-3 at the break.

UMW came out hot in the second half as they scored nine straight to take a 14-3 advantage just 12:08 in. In the run Haskins scored four and Shorts added two. Pullen, Sarazin, and Tess Siburn all added one goal a piece in the run. McDaniel answered back with two goals to put the score at 14-5 with 11:06 left. Shorts added her fourth of the day with 10:30 to put UMW back up 10. After a Green Terror goal, the Eagles closed with three of their own to win the game. Clare Madden, Shorts, and Haskins scored the final three goals on the day. 

Sarazin won seven draw controls on the day. Jennifer Bosserman caused two turnovers, controlled two draw controls, and picked up three ground balls. Rylie Cole had two caused turnovers, one ground balls, and six draw controls. Reilly Miller made nine saves in goal on the day.

The Eagles led in shots 29-17, won 15-26 draw controls, and went 17-19 in clear opportunities. 

UMW will be back in action on Saturday as they will host Stevenson for a game at 1 p.m.
