CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Playing its third consecutive Centennial Conference contest indoors to begin the season as unseasonably chilly weather has descended on the Mid-Atlantic, the national No. 35 (No. 9 Atlantic South) Haverford College women's tennis team (6-5, 1-2 CC) didn't let the unfamiliar conditions phase its approach in a methodical 7-2 victory over the homestanding Shorewomen, ranked 18th in the Atlantic South region (7-4, 1-2 CC).

Grabbing the advantage after doubles, the second flight pairing of Emily Oh and Abbey Russano helped set the tone with an 8-3 victory before the top flight featured Anne Tobin and Mimi Lavin delivering a 8-5 win. The third doubles decision went to the Shorewomen, as Summer Williams and Rachael Fitzgerald were defeated in a tiebreak by the pairing of Bin Nguyen and Katie Ruppert.

With the 2-1 lead in hand heading into singles play, the Fords saw that lead disappear as Maria Cristina Diaz-Nazario of Washington College took a 6-3, 6-0 win over Oh to tie the overall match at 2-2.

Lavin then rallied back to hand Haverford the lead with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Piper Sartison. Fitzgerald put the Fords on the brink of a match victory with her 6-4, 6-4 win in straight sets over Alisha White. Russano then got the best of Irene Meng at the top flight (6-4, 6-4) to clinch things for the Fords, and Summer Williams turned away a challenge from Bin Nguyen at the fifth (6-3, 6-2) for Haverford's sixth tally of the day at the fifth flight.

In the final match of the day to finish at the Johnson Fitness Center, Annie Barrett was a 6-4, 6-4 winner over Ruppert, wrapping up the slate with Barrett's third win of the dual-match season.

Haverford improves to 18-14 all-time against Washington College, earning its fourth consecutive win against the Shorewomen in a streak that dates back to the 2017 season.

The Fords now hop right back into CC play on Saturday, April 9 taking on Franklin & Marshall with a noon start time at the Marshall Courts on the Haverford campus.
