WESTMINSTER, Md. – The Gettysburg College men's swimming team won six of the first eight races on the way to a 52-32 win at McDaniel College Wednesday night.
Gettysburg (4-0, 2-0 CC) quickly out-distanced undermanned McDaniel (0-3, 0-3 CC), which came into the meet with eight swimmers on the roster. The Bullets swam the final two events as exhibition races.
The 200 medley relay squad of sophomores
Aedan Collins (Westfield, N.J./Westfield),
Oliver Yancey (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven), and
Jack Freeman (Haddonfield, N.J./Pennington School) and freshman
Sam Nonemaker (Shippensburg, Pa./Shippensburg) set the tone with a first-place finish time of 1:39.90.
Collins, Yancey, and Nonemaker added individual wins. Collins edged out classmate
Jack Edelson (Charlotte, N.C./Providence Senior) by 0.27 seconds with a time of 53.47 in the 100 fly, while Yancey cruised to the top spot in the 400 IM (4:25.87). Nonemaker sped his way to a victory in the 100 free (48.55).
Freshman
Oliver Pickering (Millburn, N.J./Millburn) doubled up for the third consecutive meet. Pickering began his day with a more than two-second victory in the 200 free (1:48.98) and added a three-second win in the 500 free (4:56.09).
Junior
Adam Dias (Wilmington, Del./Charter School of Wilmington) touched the wall first in an exhibition of the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:02.59.
The meet closed with Nonemaker, Edelson, Yancey, and Collins teaming up for a time of 1:28.96 in the 200 free relay.
Gettysburg returns home to face Ursinus College this Saturday at 1 p.m.
