Game Notes

Franklin & Marshall baseball (1-4) gets set for another busy week competing in four non-conference games. The Diplomats travel to play Messiah (2-4) on Thursday at 2:30 p.m. F&M then competes in the Roanoke Round-Robin where it will play a double-header on Saturday against Roanoke (4-4) at 10:00 a.m. and Marietta (2-2) at 1:00 p.m. The Diplomats wrap up the weekend on Sunday against Brockport (0-2) at 10:00 a.m. 

Last Week

The Diplomats picked up their first win of the season Tuesday afternoon at Cabrini, 6-4. Spencer Berson finished with two hits, including his first home run of the season. The center fielder also recorded three RBI in the contest. Jakob Hoffman and Drew Butera also ended the day with two hits each. Dan Galef (1-0) was the winning pitcher of record as he struck out six, while allowing just two hits and no earned runs in four innings on the mound. Bijan Anvar earned the save in the win, allowing just two hits and striking out one in the final two innings. Read the full recap here. 

F&M was originally scheduled to play a three-game series at Hampden-Sydney, but a hour-long rain delay cancelled the second game of the double-header on Saturday. Franklin & Marshall dropped both games of the series, falling 5-4 on Saturday before losing 4-3 on Sunday. Pat Elliott racked up four hits, including a home run during the series. Drew Butera homered for the first time this season, while Berson blasted his second homer of the year. 

On the mound at Hampden-Sydney, Kyle Roche tossed 4.1 innings, striking out six and allowing four earned runs on Saturday. Galef had a solid start on Sunday, striking out two and allowing two earned runs in five innings. Greg Nieskens struck out seven and allowed two earned runs in 3.1 innings in the game two loss. 

Last Time vs. Messiah

F&M faces Messiah for the first time since the Falcons defeated the Diplomats, 11-9, during the 2020 season. J.J. Freeman '21 had two hits with a team-high five RBI in the game. Tommy Denlinger finished the day batting 3-of-4 with two RBI in the contest. Read the full recap here. 

Last Time vs. Roanoke

Last season, F&M downed Roanoke 8-4 in the third game of the 2022 campaign. Jakob Hoffman and AJ Desautels led the Diplomats with two hits each. Roche started the game on the mound, striking out four and giving up no earned runs in 2.1 innings. Nieskens earned the win with seven strikeouts in 3.2 innings of relief. Read the full recap here. 

Last Time vs. Marietta

Franklin & Marshall and Marietta - out of the Ohio Athletic Conference - meet for the first time in program history. 

Last Time vs. Brockport

Brockport defeated F&M, 8-4, in their last meeting in 2012. Kevin Shields '13 led the Diplomats with three hits in the contest. Avery Attinson '14, Brian Erb '15, and Josh Mendelson '13 all recorded one RBI in the loss. Read the full recap here. 

Messiah Team Preview

Before Messiah takes on F&M, the Falcons travel to play Dickinson Wednesday at 3:00 p.m. Joshua Ammons leads the team in batting average, hitting .500 with two home runs and seven RBI. Pitcher Nathan Stein holds the team-lead in innings pitched (11.1), strikeouts (13), and ERA (5.56).

Roanoke Team Preview

The Maroons carry a two-game winning streak into Saturday's meeting after sweeping Elizabethtown on Sunday. Jonny Wall has a team-high in batting average (.379), on-base percentage (.471), and slugging percentage (.483). Pitcher Will Turner has a 2.08 ERA with eight strikeouts and three earned runs allowed through 13 innings this season.

Marietta Team Preview

Marietta plays a double-header against Case Western Reserve on Wednesday before facing F&M on Saturday. Nick Bonnizzio leads the Pioneers in batting average (.467), slugging (.733), and extra-base hits (two).  

Brockport Team Preview

The Golden Eagles started the 2023 campaign 0-2 so far. Johnny Genau has the team-high in batting average, hitting .286. Pitcher Matt McGowan has an ERA of 4.15 with three strikeouts through 4.1 innings pitched.
