DBC Makes History, Men's Hoops Hangs On to Win OT Thriller

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. - Penn State Harrisburg's men's basketball team held off a ferocious comeback attempt by Washington College in a thrilling 87-84 overtime victory at the Capital Union Building on Tuesday night, Nov. 16. During the win, Donyae Baylor-Carroll became the sixth player in program history to score 1,000 career points.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Washington College (1-2) erased a 22-point deficit and nearly pulled off the comeback but Penn State Harrisburg (3-1) locked in during crunch time and held on for an electrifying victory on Tuesday night. Brandon Coleman, Dylan Daniels, and Nate Curry each recorded double-doubles, while Donyae Baylor-Carroll flirted with a quadruple-double after scoring his 1,000th career point early in the win.

Trailing 64-42 following a Malik Holland layup with 10:31 remaining in the second half, the Shoremen battled all the way back to tie things up thanks to a Tray Wright steal and layup with 1:39 left to play. Jason Zielinski had the hot hand for the visitors and his 3-pointer with 52 seconds left put his team ahead for the first time all night.

The Lions emerged from a timeout and looked to Baylor-Carroll, who knocked down the game-tying jumper from distance following a pair of clutch offensive rebounds by Daniels and Pedro Rodriguez in the closing seconds. The sharpshooter connected from deep with 26 seconds left off a Coleman before coming away with a steal in the final moments of regulation to force an extra session.

The Shoremen used a pair of free throws to pull ahead to begin overtime but the Blue & White used a 5-0 spurt capped by a Curry jump shot at the 3:23 mark to reclaim the lead at 81-78. A Daniels dunk off a Curry assist made it 84-82 but Washington College drew even again when Dilyn Becker knocked down a jumper with one minute to go.

Coleman converted a free throw to put the home team back in front with less than a minute left before the Shoremen got three chances to take the lead thanks to timely offensive rebounding but Baylor-Carroll came up huge when he blocked a Zielinksi 3-point attempt and found a streaking Coleman for a two-handed jam in the closing seconds. Sam Corrao missed the potential game-tying 3-pointer in the final moments and the Lions escaped with the thrilling victory.
