The Muhlenberg field hockey team overcame a 2-0 deficit to force overtime but fell at Swarthmore, 3-2, in its final scheduled road game of the season.
The Garnet (7-9, 3-6) scored once in the first quarter and once in the third to open up a two-goal advantage.Â
Less than nine minutes after the second Swarthmore goal, junior
Morgan Tietz cut the deficit in half by scoring her third goal in the last two games following a field clear.
Junior
Marlee Siegel tied the score on a breakaway goal - the second of her career - with 5:50 left in regulation.
Both teams had chances in overtime, with the Mules (9-7, 3-6) putting three shots on goal. They put one into the back of the cage with about a minute left in the first extra period but were called for a foul before the shot.
Swarthmore came back down the field and created a scoring chance. Senior
Jordan Segrave came off her line to stop the first shot, and sophomore
Sarah RaabÂ
(pictured above) turned away the second on her first career defensive save. A third attempt, however, was flicked into the upper right corner and ended the game with just 28 seconds left on the clock.
