HAVERFORD, Pa. - The Haverford College men's soccer team (2-1-1) suffered its first defeat of the 2022 campaign in its opener at the Jimmy Mills Classic, falling to visiting Lycoming (2-0-2) by a 1-0 final. Haverford, playing on the Swan Field turf instead of its usual Walton Field grass, tallied nine shots, including four on frame, but a second-half goal from the Warriors proved to be the difference in the matinee.

Haverford had its first strong chance in the 11th minute with an attempt from Paul-Andre Coulibaly blocked in the box. Matt Heim later gathered a strong chance in the 12th, but his header sailed just wide of the goal as the sides remained scoreless.

Dylan Ioffreda was tested by Lycoming often in the opening minutes of action, stopping salvos from JR Confair, Owen Magee, and Christian Woobay in the first 25 minutes before also getting a stop on Thomas Geyer's header in the 29th minute of play. Lycoming proved to create more offensive chances in the early goings, but the Fords were right in the contest thanks in large part to Ioffreda's performance between the pipes.  In total, the Warriors fired seven shots in the opening frame, with Ioffreda making five saves.

In the second, Lycoming was set up well with a free kick following a Haverford foul in the 55th minute. Woobay lined up and curved in a shot from just outside the top of the box to open the scoring, putting the visitors ahead 1-0. Tomas Ascoli and Matt Heim had shots on goal as the Fords looked to chase the equalizer from that point. Ioffreda made sure to keep the Lycoming lead to just one with a trio of saves in a stretch that saw the Warriors put four shots on the board.

Andrew Fritz later put a header on frame in the 66th, and Meinhardt Rentrup missed with his header shot in the 70th. Conrad Coyanda-Parkes had one final attempt for the Fords in the 89th minute, missing high as Lycoming escaped victorious.

Ioffreda notched his season-best in saves and was just one save behind his career high of 11 set against Johns Hopkins in 2019. Ascoli had three shots, including two on target, to pace the Fords offensively on Saturday.

Haverford will now wrap up the Jimmy Mills Classic on Swan Field Saturday against Skidmore. Kick off of the contest is slated for 2:30 p.m. Rowan and Lycoming will play at noon to open up the day's doubleheader.
