Women's Basketball Downed by Dicksinson

CARLISLE, Pa. – The Ursinus College women's basketball team (7-15, 6-11 CC) fell to Dickinson (12-10, 10-7 CC) on Saturday, 78-49.

Despite the loss, Aliyah Stephens became just the 16th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points. Needing 14 points to hit the mark, the junior finished with 15 to go with five rebounds.

The Bears came out of the gates going down 6-2 before Aliyah Stephens brought it back within two with a hard-earned lay-up and Lydia Konstanzer tied it up with a lay-in of her own.

After Konstanzer again tied it at 8-8, Dickinson scored the next seven as the Bears went down 15-8. Marisa Morano cashed in on a pair of free throws to bring Ursinus back within five, but a 9-0 run to end the opening quarter had the Red Devils up 24-10.

The 24-10 early deficit would prove to be too much to overcome. The Red Devils continued to build on the opening frame into the second quarter as Dickinson went up by as much as 22. Five straight points from Morano, including a make from beyond the arc, started a 9-0 run for the Bears as they went into the half trailing 42-27.

The Bears kept clawing back out the half. Francesca Bogiatzis hit a jumper for the first basket out of the break and then a pair of Konstanzer free throws had Usrinus within 11.

An 8-2 run from the Red Devils to close the third quarter had the home side up 54-37. Dickinson took that momentum into the final frame as Ursinus went down by 20 for the first time since the second quarter. The Red Devils went up by as much as 32 in the final quarter as the Bears fell 78-49.

Konstanzer finished with her seventh consecutive double-double, tallying 13 points to pair with 12 rebounds.

The Bears are back in action on Wednesday when they travel to play Washington College.
