Women's Basketball Falls to Red Devils

SWARTHMORE, Pa. - Swarthmore College Women's Basketball fell to Centennial Conference foe Dickinson College, 56-51, at Tarble Pavilion on Saturday afternoon.

Dana Bandurick scored 17 points and gathered nine rebounds for the home team, while T Sallie posted double-digit points for the third straight game, finishing with 14 points and three steals. Norah Wingfield added nine points and three blocks of her own in a season-high 39 minutes for the Garnet (5-2, 3-1 CC).

Trailing by 10 midway through the second quarter, Swarthmore rallied to cut the lead to five at the half. A layup by Dana Bandurick and three consecutive free-throw baskets from T Sallie tied the game less than three minutes into the third before the Red Devils (4-3, 3-2 CC) pulled away. Dickinson's Gina Neigel, who led her team with 17 points, netted seven points in the final 13 minutes of action to help seal the victory for the visitors.

The loss snapped Swarthmore's five-game winning streak and placed the Garnet into a tie with Johns Hopkins University for second in the Centennial Conference standings. The team will resume Centennial Conference play on January 5 at McDaniel.

At 5-2, Swarthmore heads into the holiday break with their best record through seven games since the 2012-13 campaign. On Saturday, the team also collected toys, books, and other holiday gifts in support of their Toys for Tots drive and welcomed members of the United States Marine Corps in attendance.

Swarthmore will close out the calendar year with a non-conference matchup at Ramapo College on Wednesday, December 29. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
