Game Recap: Softball |

Astrella Homers at McDaniel

Senior Karissa Astrella homered in her first at-bat to give the Muhlenberg softball team a good start in its Centennial Conference road doubleheader, but McDaniel ended the day with a sweep, winning one slugfest and one pitching duel.

Astrella, the third batter of the game, belted her second career home run to give the Mules a 1-0 lead. The Green Terror came back with four runs in the bottom of the first, but Muhlenberg erased the deficit with a five-run second.

Freshman Elise Enslin led off the big inning with a double and eventually scored on a single by senior Hanna Caiola. Senior Amelia Shelley and junior Kristina Qualben also recorded RBI singles in the inning.

McDaniel (16-13-1, 9-3) tied the game back up in the bottom of the second and pulled away in subsequent innings, eventually winning 14-6.

Junior Kristy Selby followed up Astrella's home run in the first with a single, extending her hitting streak to 16 games. Selby went 0-for-3 in the nightcap and had to settle for tying for the fourth-longest streak in program history.

There were many zeroes in the second game, with the Green Terror winning 1-0 on an unearned run. Senior Haley Fedak was the tough-luck loser for the Mules (8-16, 2-6) pitching her ninth complete game of the season and striking out four.

Muhlenberg put runners on third with one out in the third and two outs in the sixth but could not score and was shut out for the first time this season.
