Women’s Lacrosse Dominant in Season Opener

The Muhlenberg women's lacrosse team opened the 2019 season with a 17-6 rout of Arcadia. The win is the 150th in the career of head coach Kristen Stuckel.

Junior Julia Lombardo and senior Amanda Tullo combined for the final three goals of the first half to give the Mules an 8-3 advantage at the break. Those goals were the start of a 12-1 run for Muhlenberg that ended in a game-high 13-goal lead with 4:44 to play.

Highlighted by three goals in the first 7:10, Muhlenberg jumped out to a 5-0 lead before the Knights got on the board with three in a row. Junior Victoria Friedel scored twice in the Mules opening run, while sophomore Lauren Sammarro, junior Gabriella Crivelli and senior Emma Carmody each found the back of the net once.

Friedel (pictured above) and Crivelli each netted a hat trick on the day, the second and first of their respective careers. The day's leading point scorer, however, was senior Amanda Tullo, whose five goals and seven points were both one off her career best.

Lombardo registered her first-career multi-goal game with two tallies, while senior Erin Duca scored on a free position shot.

Friedel made her presence felt on draws, tying senior Caroline Dolan with a game-high five draw controls. Sammarro finished with four draw controls. The Mules controlled 17 of 24 draws.

Crivelli contributed on both ends of the field by scoring two goals, collecting three ground balls and causing a pair of turnovers. Senior Morgan Weiss led the defensive effort in both ground balls (4) and caused turnovers (3).

Junior Jordan Segrave made five saves in 55:49 of work, while freshman Chiara Brady made her first career appearance in relief.

As a team, 30 of Muhlenberg's 40 shots were on goal. Defensively, the Mules allowed just 16 shots.
