ALLENTOWN, Pa. – The Washington and Lee wrestling team claimed three individual champions out of the 10 weight classes at the Northeast/Mideast Futures Tournament hosted by Muhlenberg College on Sunday.
 
Sophomore Joe Salerno (Princeton Junction, N.J. / West Windsor-Plainsboro South) claimed the title at 149 pounds, pinning all four of his opponents.  In the process, Salerno set a new W&L program record for pins in a season.  He now has 20 pins, eclipsing the former mark of 18 set last season by current junior teammate Bryce Crew (St. Mary's, Ga. / Camden County).
 
First-year 133-pounder Mark Fasciocco (Southampton, Pa. / Germantown Academy) and first-year 184-pounder Cameron Blizzard (Greensboro, N.C. / Ragsdale) also won their respective weight classes.  Fasciocco won four matches to claim the championship, while Blizzard needed three wins to seize his bracket.
 
Senior Alec Horne (Chester Springs, Pa. / Downingtown East) placed third in the 174-pound weight class and sophomore Russ Zimmerman (Mechanicsburg, Pa. / Cumberland Valley) placed fourth at 141 pounds after he was required to forfeit the third-place match for having already competed in the maximum number of daily matches (6).
 
Salerno, who is now 22-9 for the season, claimed his 20th pin in the title match, besting Ryan Burgbacher of Cortland in 2:31.
 
Fasciocco registered two pins, one technical fall and one decision on his way to winning the 133-pound title.  He pinned Ryan Manahan of the College of New Jersey in 1:50 during the title bout.
 
Blizzard recorded two decisions and one pin for a 3-0 record at 184 pounds.  He downed Mike Cannon of Muhlenberg in the championship match by a score of 6-3.
 
Horne finished his day with a 4-1 overall record, pinning Gabe Rodrigues of NYU in just 0:38 during the third-place match.  Zimmerman went 5-1 at 141 pounds, totaling one pin and one technical fall.
 
Washington and Lee will next compete on Friday and Saturday in the NCAA Southeast Regional hosted by Messiah College.  Action begins at 11:00 am.
