#11 Tartans Close Spring Trip with 8-1 Victory Over Haverford

(ORLANDO, Fla.) - The Carnegie Mellon University women's tennis team concluded its spring trip to Florida with an 8-1 victory over Haverford College Friday. The Tartans will return to Pittsburgh with a record of 9-4 overall. Haverford continues its season with a mark of 4-2.

For the first time this spring season, Carnegie Mellon swept doubles play with its top tandem of senior Lindy Cornwall (Poway, Calif. / Poway) and junior Bin Zheng (Miami, Fla. / Doral Academy) securing the first point with an 8-3 win. The third doubles pair of sophomore Farida Abdelmoneum (Portland, Ore. / K12 International Academy) and freshman Simran Bedi (Pittsburgh, Pa. / Sewickley Academy) won 8-5 to give the Cardinal and Gray a 2-0 advantage before senior Janabelle Wu (San Jose, Calif. / Lynbrook) and freshman Crystal Zhou (Austin, Texas / LASA) gained the final point with an 8-2 victory at the second spot.

Senior Victoria Chang (Dublin, Ohio / Dublin Jerome) gave the Tartans a 4-0 lead with a victory at fourth singles. The senior won by the scores of 6-1, 6-0. Abdelmoneum then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the sixth spot.

Shortly after Abdelmoneum's win, Yang added a win at first singles, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman Zoe Angell (Midland, Mich. / H.H. Dow) also was victorious at third singles by the scores of 6-2, 6-4. Zhou collected a win at second singles after dropping her first set by the scores of 2-6, 6-1, 1-0 (6).

The Tartans will host Division II West Liberty University on Saturday, March 26.
